This is it!

Well…It has finally arrived (far too quickly might I add) for me to leave the University as a member of staff =(
And then, as of 12.30 on the 4th June, I will no longer be a student here either.
Wow…it’s like the end of an era!!! 3 years has just flown by!

So this is my final post.
It’s been a good year working at the Uni, and I hope to take everything I’ve learnt from my time here to wherever I may be going next (I haven’t got a clue as of yet, all I know is its Leicester)…could be interesting…

Let’s Go!!

Another Day and More HTML

I’m still finding it quite difficult to get my head around it the more I read into it. At the minute I’m reading about formatting elements, and I’ve just read about creating lists…ordered with numbers, ordered with letters, ordered with roman numbers, unordered with squares, unordered with circles, definitions!
The first few pages I look at are ok, then it goes into telling you to put line breaks everywhere and how to align text and how to get it to do this and this and this…arrrggghhhhh arrrgggghhhhh arrggghhhh!
I’m doing it aswell. It tells you to use notepad and to copy and paste html codes from the website into notepad and then to open it in a web browser. Yeah, ok, thats pretty simple…but I’m still trying to fathom out what they mean and why they’re there and what they do!
I will get it into my head, I will, I will, I will.

Another thing that really bothers me is the student elections. The bed sheets and posters make the whole university look really tacky, its not nice to look at. Especially now I have to look at my housemate’s face everyday I walk into the main building. There’s a reason I hate going home, because he’s there, and now he’s all over campus…I can’t get away from him!! That may seem like the most horrid thing someone could ever say about a person, but believe me, if you met him, you’d feel the exact same way!

This Week…

…hasn’t been the best.
I got my first out of five assignments back and I wasn’t very happy. Quite gutted if I’m perfectly honest. It was one of my favourite ones that I wrote aswell, I really enjoyed writing it and I did PANTS! I don’t think I want my others back. Coursework is supposed to be my strength too, I normally rely on my marks from my written work so if I do ever do terrible on exams my coursework mark will bump it up a little. This is my final year and I don’t want to ‘flunk it’ (as my dad would say!) OH PANTS!!

My partner is struggling to walk because he has shin splints. They don’t sound too nice…what are they exactly?! Apart from being extremely painful!!
Are there any home remedies that might help them get better so he doesn’t have to pay £36 a session for people sticking pins in his legs or squeezing them so he screams?

BUT…last night at the youth club we did have a Tropical Animals show which was pretty Fab! He brought in snakes, birds, cute little meerkats, a scorpion and a spider =D The kids loved it, it was brillaint.
And and and…at the end when the kids had gone the guy let his meerkats out again and let them run around us. Never ever been so close to a meerkat so i could touch it before, they’re adorable and they really do look so much like Timon from the Lion King. (One of them was called Timon aswell!)
Here’s the link to my album on facebook of the animals (hopefully it will let you look at it!):

And on the blog front…still not much happening.

What’s on and What’s Been on!?!

Well…
On Friday I went to give a little demostration on Google Docs over in the Chancellor’s office to someone who worked over there and it didnt work out as planned which was a bit of a pain. So number 1 on the agenda is to find out why it didnt work and tell the lady I demonstrated it to, make a help document for sharing files and shoot myself because it was so embarrassing!
Number 2 on the agenda is to investigate the portal. David Raines may be starting me on a project with the Portal but first I have to complete a task in ‘Portal Demystified’.

And then on the student side, I need to kick my bum into gear and get my assignments written!
Practically living in the library in my spare time!!
The only problem…the heating is up and down like crazy…I need heat!

What’s occurring

Well, on Tuesday I took a trip to the GCW top floor to discover where the posters for the wireless printing could be put. I think the idea is to introduce the wireless printing in short bursts so that if things don’t work out as planned it won’t be a huge blow and won’t have too many students complaining at once.

I don’t have a huge amount to report about work as I haven’t really been doing too much.
However, I have been asked to possibly give a 1-to-1 tutorial about Google Documents, which could be quite interesting and some good experience too.

Despite not much going on in work life, there’s loads going on in student life.
I have just signed up to be a part of the Lincoln Law Clinic that should be up and running again within the next week or so. I will be giving legal advice to some 15,000 people within the University, and those with links to the University. I have also signed up to something called StreetLaw, where I will have the opportunity to visit colleges and schools to give presentations on aspects of law.
Alot going on and hopefully alot going on the C.V. =D

P..P..Poor..Portal

I discovered in my Introduction lecture on Wednesday that some tutors are not big fans of the Portal.

WHY??

Because its not simple!

But, the tutor did have a point. It is extremely hard to find things that you need. It all seems to be hidden within menus and links where you wouldn’t expect it to be.
It is especially difficult for tutors to explain to students where these useful things are hidden. This has stemmed from my tutor trying to explain to us where to find Regulations relating to the University and Assessments.
It is a very helpful site, don’t get me wrong, its just the fact that it is hard to find bits and bobs.

Is there any way it can be made simpler?!

Oh and…where CAN I find the Regulations for the Uni??
