Good Morning!

Only popped in for a couple of hours this morning (and every tuesday morning in future) to get up to date with goings on and fill people in on what I’ve been doing.
Going to have a go with the wireless printing while I’m here I think.

In terms of the acceptable users policy that I mentioned in my last post, the same one that we are using at the minute will be posted on the wireless site but not all of it! Its far too long and only a crazy student would sit and actually read a 20 page users policy which is basically saying (as my line manager put it) ‘Be Good’.
Looking to only use about 2 pages of it which is found in the student handbook.

Wireless Networking

If I firstly refer you to one of my earlier posts, its quite clear that I had trouble accessing the Internet from the Atrium due to the poor instructions on the wireless page. But I have to say that all of the booklets and even the homepage for the wireless are now looking good…I’m impressed! The help available is so much more clear now. And after speaking briefly to Jonathan Cushnie, it turns out there’s not been any complaints so far about accessing the wireless, which is great.
At the minute I’m just trying to find out about the Acceptable Users Policy and what’s happening with that with regard to the wireless.

After returning to work today after having suspected Swine Flu (apparently there’s not that much difference between normal flu, swine flu, and something called fresher’s flu!) I have found out that the Wireless Printing is going ahead and should be up and running in a few weeks. As a student, it sounds fab =) I’ll refer you to Nick Jackson’s Blog as Nick is the one who is setting it all up and he will be able to keep you all up to date.

P..P..Poor..Portal

I discovered in my Introduction lecture on Wednesday that some tutors are not big fans of the Portal.

WHY??

Because its not simple!

But, the tutor did have a point. It is extremely hard to find things that you need. It all seems to be hidden within menus and links where you wouldn’t expect it to be.
It is especially difficult for tutors to explain to students where these useful things are hidden. This has stemmed from my tutor trying to explain to us where to find Regulations relating to the University and Assessments.
It is a very helpful site, don’t get me wrong, its just the fact that it is hard to find bits and bobs.

Is there any way it can be made simpler?!

Oh and…where CAN I find the Regulations for the Uni??

A Change

As of next week I will not be working my 20 hours that I have been in the past couple of months.
As you all know, lectures start in just over a week so I have had to lower my hours to fit around my timetable. Luckily I have a full day off so I can work a full day on a Friday and still earn some money, which is brill.

With regard to my report…its finished =) just need to change the format and layout and fingers crossed, I’ll have got it right this time!

Online Word Processors

Since re-attempting my report of Google Documents, I have come across quite a few ‘Online Word Processors’. I never knew these existed until I met Google Documents and since researching Google Docs I have found more! I think they’re fab! For most of them you need to have an account, but still…they’re handy.

There is also speculation that I am not the typical student, due to the fact I check my student e-mails (all the time), I think the automatic updates sent to the student e-mail (and staff e-mail) are very useful and as Tim witnessed today, I get excited when my new sites for 09/10 are posted on Blackboard!!
Hmmm…actually…I suppose I know where Tim is coming from!

Start Again

I finished my report and handed it in on Thursday of last week, but it wasn’t a report. I had written it how I would write an assignment and so the context in which it was written was all wrong. I was told the content was fine which is good! I just have to re-write so it is a report, which is extremely difficult.
The only way I know how to write and present facts is as an assignment so I am finding it really hard to change the context of the original into a report format.
I have absolutely no idea how to write a report because I have never written one before!
Any hints and tips would be much appreciated =)

I’m Back =)

Well I’m back from my 2 weeks dogsitting. It was a good but exhausting 2 weeks!
This is the adorable 2 and a half year old dog I looked after for my mum and dad while they were away.

Max
Max

Absolutely gorgeous isn’t he?
He’s the funniest dog I think I’ve ever known. He sits in a chair like a human does and falls asleep like that aswell! And he’s terrified of little dogs, he’ll run away from them yet he’ll go and cause trouble with dogs bigger than him!

I’ve now moved into my new student house aswell. I moved in there on the 8th of this month and its a nice little house. We went to view it at the beginning of the year and it was the nicest we saw and now they’ve fitted a whole new kitchen, new leather sofas and a new tv so its even better!!

I’m also trying to find some work experience but I’m having no luck at the minute. I’ve sent letters out to solicitor’s firms in and around Lincoln but they have all said that they don’t have anything available. Its so so hard especially when we get told from our tutors that its important you get atleast some work experience and do some volunteer work. I’ve sent out letters since I started at Lincoln 2 years ago and I still haven’t found anything, so the pressure really is on and I’m running out of ideas now!

Cracking on with my report as well, about half way through now =) Might be done by the end of the week, beginning of next.
